Today, I am very excited to say that we’ve got a guest post for you by the very lovely award winning blogger, Melanie from Melanie Lissack Interiors. We had the pleasure of meeting Melanie at the Amara Interior Blog Awards this year, where she very deservedly won her category for ‘Best Craft & DIY Blog’. In the run up to Christmas we knew we’d be <del>rather</del> very busy, so we thought we’d enlist her help and asked Melanie to come up with a gorgeous craft post that our readers would love. And what a gorgeous post it is indeed! Melanie came up with a seriously stunning and colorful indoor pompom wreath and has provided step by step instructions for you to make this at home. So, take it away, Melanie…

If you would rather have a more colourful Christmas than a traditional one, then this bright honeycomb pompom indoor wreath might just be for you! I have a traditional door wreath on the exterior of my front door made with berries and holly, but DIY’d this pompom wreath for the inside of the door ready for Xmas and New Year parties!

I have to fess up – I made some of the honeycomb pompoms on this wreath, but the smaller ones were bought (you can get around 20 mini pompoms for £6 online). If you have a group of kids that need to be entertained, or if you find you really enjoy honeycomb pompom making, then you can make all the pompoms. However, if like me you are a bit pushed for time and your kid showed absolutely no interest in making any pompoms for you, then feel free to cheat a bit!

To make a paper honeycomb pompom wreath you’ll need the following (and some pre-made pompoms if you are cheating, plus some cheap baubles if you want an extra glam touch):

You can buy the 12″ wire wreath support at craft stores for a couple of pounds. This is what you will tie your pompoms to.

To make the pompoms follow these simple steps!

1. Fold over a sheet of tissue paper numerous times to make a number of squares around 17cmx17cm in size. Cut along the edges to make single sheets. You’ll need about 45 single cut sheets to make a full round pompom.

2. Take a piece of card and along the bottom measure out 3cm gaps.

3. Alternate two colour pens to make marking points on the bottom of the card.

4. Using a pritt stick, glue one side of the tissue paper pieces.

5. Stick down this first tissue paper piece just above the marking points.

6. Using your glue stick, glue a line down one colour of the marking lines only. Stick another piece of tissue paper down on top of this one, then glue down the lines of the other line colour, stick down another tissue paper piece, then repeat!

7. Once you have stuck down all your tissue paper pieces, take your ruler and mark a semi circle on the top sheet. Draw a base-line, mark out the middle of the line, then use your ruler like a clock hand to mark the semi-circle.

8. Cut out your semi-circle with scissors.

9. Place your semi-circle on the bit of card that remains unused and draw around it.

10. Cut out the outlined shape then stick it on the other side of the tissue paper.

11. Gently unfold your pompom. You can make a circle, or if your pompom is quite large only half open it and staple the card together (you want your door wreath to be able to rest against the door).

12. Staple some twine to the card ready to attach to the wire support.

Using some twine, hang your wire support up somewhere (I used the fridge handle!) and tie your pompoms to the wire support. Build up the pompoms as you go. Using a hot glue gun or some superglue, give the pompoms extra support on top of each other if required so they stay in place.

Once your pompoms are up, glue in some cheap baubles to give the wreath more shape if needed and an extra glam touch. Just add glue to the top of the baubles and stick them on/in the paper pompoms.

TA-DA! One modern, colourful door wreath can then be hung in your home.

So, what do you think? Pretty special isn’t it. HUGE thank you to Melanie for providing this post for us. If you make this wreath or your own version of it at home, do post a pic and tag us both on Instagram: @audenzahome and @melanielissackinteriors– we’d love to see how they turn out!

Do you fancy getting crafty this Christmas? Well I have 3 blog posts for you that sum up the best of crafting – whether it be presents or Christmas decorations.

Kimberly from Swoon Worthy has excelled herself with this one, well there are 3 posts actually and they are all fabulous. Scented room spray, scented soap and scented candles, all made from essential oils, and the icing on the cake is that Kimberly has designed gorgeous labels for these home made products that are free to download from her blog. They make such fabulous presents and look so professional with Kimberly’s labels.

If you are looking for a more unusual floral decoration for your Christmas table then Si from the French By Design blog has a guest post by floral artist Kiana Underwood who gives a step by step tutorial for creating a sumptuous floral extravaganza using soft hues that that can be tailored to suit your colour scheme. I like the idea of using softer colours but you can use anything that takes your fancy.

I’m not generally a great fan of poinsettias but after seeing the ideas on MyGardenSchool blog I’m a convert. I love the small poinsettia inside a glass bell jar, simple but very pretty. There are lots of ideas from Andy McIndoe on how to make Christmas wreaths and table decorations and ideas for filling pots with seasonal pot plants that would make great presents.

But hey, if you can’t go OTT at Christmas, then when can you.

For the last few months I’ve enjoyed following a blog series called, ‘Styling the Seasons’. This series was devised by Katy of Apartment Apothecary and Charlotte of Lotts and Lotts. It’s a monthly series intended to celebrate each and every month as it arrives and what it means to us. I have been meaning to/ wanting to get involved but just as is often the case, by the time I’ve remembered, the month is gone.
So this month it was planned into the blog schedule for the beginning of December. But then of course December arrived and oh, so did the orders! So Santas Little Elves have been busy sewing and packing orders and the blog has been a little neglected. But alas, here it is, albeit 9 days late!

We always tend to go for a traditional feel with our Christmas decorations, for me December is all about traditions. Getting out that board game that you haven’t picked up since last year (or in our case, playing Pontoon with a big bag of coppers!), the whole family sitting down to watch a movie together or even buying a bag of nuts in shells, which is far more effort, but just seems more, ‘Christmassy!’

Since I knew they would sit so beautifully on my dark wall, I opted for a gold and red theme this year and certainly didn’t go lightly on the decorations. But hey, if you can’t go OTT at Christmas, then when can you.

What do you think to my December arrangement? Will you be going for traditional decs or something a little different?

There’s so many talented bloggers that take part in this series, so do head over to social media and search for #stylingtheseasons to get inspired.

Plain wreaths are quite cheap to buy and it allows you to customize them to your own style, so here are my steps for how to decorate your own Christmas wreath.

Plain wreaths are quite cheap to buy and it allows you to customize them to your own style, so here are my steps for how to decorate your own Christmas wreath.

1. Choose wreath

This pretty faux ivy wreath has a slight dusting of glitter that makes it look like it’s frosted and it shimmers in the light.

2. Choose decorations

Choice of decoration is limitless as you can always cut down bigger pieces to the size you require. Faux foliage, baubles, clip on birds, ribbons and all sorts of bits and pieces can be wired to attach to the wreath.

3. Wire in lights

Small, battery operated lights are just the right size for a wreath and can be simply wired to the wreath to hold them in place.

4. Use wire to wrap around decorations

Acorns look lovely sprayed gold or silver and then simply wrap fine wire around them (either florists wire or you can by wire on a spool for jewellery making).

5. Attach to wreath

To attach the decorations to the wreath simply twist the wire around branches on the wreath.

6. Add bow

Finally add a big bow (optional, of course) and hang it on your front door – or in my case above the mantelpiece, which you can see in last weeks post on styling the seasons.

Our picks of the best Christmas gift wrapping ideas, plus a fab recipe for mulled wine tiramisu! See you all in the New Year x

This week, I’m going to share with you some fantastic Christmas gift wrapping ideas. This post was supposed to be lots of lovely crafty ideas of our own, but we have been somewhat snowed under recently with Christmas orders (which is fantastic), but it’s meant that we’ve just not had the time that we’d like to be creative. We haven’t even managed to get our Christmas decorations up yet and only by the skin of our teeth managed to get some presents ordered the other night before last posting dates!

So, between a website redesign and Christmas, the last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind for us. Still, we’ll know what to expect next year at least, so we can have plenty of blog posts ready in advance!

So, I’m going to share with you some Christmas gift wrapping ideas that we’ve collated from other inspiring blogs:

1. Decorators Notebook Gingerbread Christmas Gift Wrap

This is such a wonderful idea, I love the fact that the wrapping is in itself a gift!

There’s a couple of different ideas in this post, all focused around the theme of nature.

I love these etched bird ornaments, which can be used to hand on the tree, or decorate presents, you can have a look at them and find out how to do them here.

I hope this has inspired you to be extra creative with your Christmas gift wrapping this year- as long as my last minute presents arrive on time, I’ll be trying some of these out!

There’s also quite a few recipes that I’d like to try out over the Christmas period, one of which is this Mulled Wine and Gingerbread Tiramisu from Carole Poirot on the AO at Home blog.

This is our last post of the year, we’re taking a break from blogging and (hopefully!) a break from our emails, so from all of us at Audenza, we’d like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
