We Love: Amtico Flooring
21 Jun 2016
I love Amtico flooring – and no, I’m not being paid to say that! I’ve always loved the finish, and the designs, and the way you can make patterns with the pieces to make a design unique to you and your home. When I moved into my previous house 25 years ago I knew instantly that Amtico would do justice to the beautiful big square hall. I also hoped that it would be able to cope with five children rampaging through it on a daily basis. And it did, and still it looks good. The stuff that floor had to put up with – the kids have fond memories of whizzing around the central hall table on skateboards chasing each other and other such fun pursuits. Well I didn’t find it fun then but in retrospect I suppose it was, certainly for them!

I chose an oak wood effect laid in a parquet design in a central rectangle with a border design that made a feature of the large central table and then conventional strips for the rest of the hall. That’s part of the beauty of Amtico that you can pick out features and unusual shapes by creating borders to increase the visual effect. Visitors always presumed the floor was real wood and were surprised it was laminate. And that floor still looks good 25 years later! I did go on to have Amtico in the kitchen and bathrooms and they still look good.
Design: Umbra Eclipse
My main regret in my current home is my lack of Amtico as I was persuaded by the guy doing the renovations to have engineered oak planks in the kitchen, hallway and sitting room. Oh big, big mistake! In 3 years I have already had the kitchen floor sanded and re-varnished and it now needs doing again – without five kids rampaging. Lesson learnt – too late though!
Designs: Kura Cassia, Kura Anise, Kura Caraway, Kura Kala
Anyway enough of my ramblings. See for yourself on their website the fast array of designs, and you can even play about with a room visualiser to see how the different finishes look in a setting.
