Best Living Room Mirror Ideas to Impress Your Guests

Mirrors are such an important aspect of any interior design scheme, and it’s easy to see why because they really can transform a whole room. They seem to have magic powers – mirrors really can make a space feel instantly brighter and larger by increasing the natural light, maximising the sense of space, and wouldn’t we all want this in our homes. So, today we’ll look at some inspiring living room mirror ideas to help you transform your interiors.

Frame Size Matters

Frame size and glass size make a big difference to the overall effect you want to achieve. A larger piece of glass will obviously reflect more light and make a space feel larger, whereas a larger frame size will create more of a focal point and look more like a piece of artwork. So, think about what look you want to achieve, before choosing your mirror. Or, go for something like this Handmade Gold Aurora Wall Mirror, which somehow manages to expertly combine the two. With its large round mirrored section, it’s perfect for really maximising light and reflections, but the gorgeous detailing of the gold bobbles really draws your eye and creates a striking statement in a room.

Placement is Key

Deciding where to place your mirror in your living room is a key step. If placed carefully, adding mirrors is the quickest and easiest way to enhance the light in your living room and create an illusion of more space. Try and place them opposite a window to bounce the maximum amount of natural light around the room. Or if you are limited with natural light, try hanging one behind a lamp or light fixture to create a similar effect.

Also, think about what will be reflected in the mirror, when deciding where to hang it. If you have a window to your garden, reflecting that scene back inside will make your space feel open and airy, and give a feeling of bringing the outside in. Or if you don’t have a gorgeous garden to reflect on, what about a striking piece of artwork on the opposite wall.

Consider Shape & Style

Think about the shape and style of the mirror in relation to your own decor. So, for instance, more ornate frames can be great for a more classic style of décor, whereas round, simple wall mirrors are great for a contemporary and clean living room. Similarly, the material of the mirror is important in creating the style you want. Wooden mirrors are great for a more natural, earthy feel, whereas gold mirrors are great for adding that touch of luxury. That’s not to say you can’t go for a contrast though and create a statement by choosing a different style mirror to your current décor.

In terms of shape, square mirrors are great for adding structure and clean lines to your living room, whereas a round mirror will give a softer feel. If your living room has lots of straight lines, we personally think a round mirror makes a great contrast to this, as its curves will soften all the other straight lines around the room and provide a welcome contrast.

And most importantly, don’t be afraid to go big when it comes to your living room mirror. The larger the mirror, the more light and space you’ll reflect into your décor, so it’s worth splashing out and investing in a large mirror if you can.

Create a Focal Point

Mirrors are perfect for creating a focal point within a room, whether that be above a fireplace, above a console table, or behind an occasional chair, they immediately draw your gaze and make a space feel complete. Even the most simple of mirrors can create a striking focal point, like this Round Antique Brass Large Wall Mirror. It’s the perfect mirror for when you don’t want something too overpowering, but you still want a focal piece to finish off the aesthetics of the room. A mirror is also the perfect starting place to build on and add more decorative pieces around it, so choose your mirror and work from there to create your focal point in the room. Try adding candle holders or vases on either side of your fireplace mantle, to frame the mirror and enhance its visual appeal.

Mirrors as Art

By utilising more unusual, shaped wall mirrors, you can really start to play about with mirrors as forms of art, as the focus becomes less on the mirror and more on the frame. So choose frames that stand out and add visual interest, like this Square Sunburst Mirror, with its unique and radiant design, it would create a show-stopping display in any living room. Or how about this Dripping Gold Mirror, it looks like a modern art piece with its fabulous gold dripping effect, and because of its smaller size, it could easily be combined with other wall décor and artwork to create a striking display.

Statement Styling

Mirrors look amazing styled in pairs, this could be either side of a fireplace, or perhaps either side of a large piece of furniture. For this look, we think a mirror that is quite simple and elegant works well, so they don’t completely overshadow the rest of the room. This Gold Moroccan Wall Arch Mirror is absolutely perfect for this, with its iconic scalloped arch, it’s reminiscent of the majestic architecture of Morocco, and it is sure to add an understated elegance and tranquillity to your living room.

Or if you prefer a more maximalist look, why not consider styling multiple mirrors together and mixing them in with artwork and wall décor pieces to create a striking gallery wall. Small mirrors can be perfect for this, as they can be fitted in amongst some of your favourite pieces of art, like this Golden Perching Parrot Mirror.

Mirrors Aren’t Just for Walls

And finally, don’t just think of mirrors as wall mirrors, mirrored furniture is another great way to include their reflective powers. A drinks cabinet with mirrored doors for example, is a stunning way to incorporate the mirrored trend and create an airy and bright feel in your living room. Or how about mirrored side tables to bounce sunlight around the room, like these Faiza Mirrored Nest of Tables, with their mirrored glass teardrop panels in the sides, they will bounce a gorgeous array of colour and pattern around your living room.

So, as you can see, mirrors really are a designer’s best friend, as their power to immediately infuse a room with light, space and charisma, is unrivalled. So, embrace the magic of mirrors and watch your interiors come to life.
