How to do Glam without being Garish
1 Apr 2016
Most of us like a bit of glam, me in particular, but it’s too easy to go over the top and then it turns into garish and possibly bling! How do you avoid this and still have a home that feels glamorous and sexy? Constraint is the word! Difficult to do I know but it’s all in the subtle touches. The photos below illustrate my point very nicely as it’s a beautiful home that has that lived in feel but at the same time there is that element of glam that lifts it above the ordinary.
New Magazine: ‘Modern Gardens’
25 Mar 2016
‘Modern Gardens’ is a new gardening magazine to hit the stands and I love it so I thought I would shout about it! Being an obsessive gardener I buy most of the gardening magazines on a regular basis and inspirational and informative though they may be, they don’t really relate to the small suburban plot most of us have. Whereas, ‘Modern Gardens’ is full of inspirational design and style ideas for creating an interesting outdoor room without being overly horticultural.
6 Golden Rules for Decorating with House Plants
12 Mar 2016
House plants are a lovely way to bring the outdoors in, in summer and winter, and a hot trend whatever your style of interiors. House plants bring an organic quality to your home and a feeling of tranquility and, as an added bonus, they are good for cleansing the air. My six golden rules for decorating with house plants are:
1. The first golden rule has to be to make sure the plant suits the situation – ferns will frazzle on a sunny window sill whereas sempervivums will relish the sun. So ‘right plant right place’ is essential for a successful display. I have caused, through neglect, the demise of many a house plant in my time, though not spider plants and ivy as they appear to be indestructible and always come back from the brink however sad they look.
SS16 Interiors Trend – Let’s Get Tropical!
4 Mar 2016
Tropical is by no means a new trend in interiors, but it’s certainly picking up pace this season and is definitely one of the key looks for SS16. Think lush tropical greenery and palm trees with colonial rattan and then add splashes of colour with vibrant cockatoos and mix it with gold pineapples and insects for a real dazzle of sunshine.
As you may know, our decorating style isn’t for the faint hearted, so if we were to do this look it’d be full on and OTT. It’s the perfect trend for colour loving maximalists to go wild… But there’s also plenty of ways to bring in the look without feeling like your home’s been overtaken by rainforest, here’s our key tips.

Vintage Home by Judith Miller- Book Review
2 Dec 2015
‘Vintage Home: 20th-Century Design for Contemporary Living’, by Judith Miller is a fabulous book for the discerning collector of vintage, and a style guide for how to combine vintage and contemporary pieces to create a visual feast.
Judith Miller, a renowned antiques expert with many books and TV shows to her credit, leads us through the tastemakers of the past century with three main chapters, Deco World, New Look and New Moderns, which have been divided into subchapters to cover every possible design style. As my home is eclectic and individual I was intrigued to see the sumptuous interiors shots of how others have combined eras to create their own individual look.
