Jane Brocket Handmade Quilt

Hello Everyone!

So we’re a little late with our post this week I’m afraid, we’ve been trying to get this finished all week!   It’s been all go here, we have placed nearly all of our orders now for products, bought all of our fabrics and trimmings and it finally feels like we’re starting to tick some things off the list!  Amelia and I are chained to our computers, Jacqui is busy painting, sewing and making, and the only time we’re allowed to leave our respective work areas is to make a work visit to see someone or buy something! That aside, it really does feel like we’re finally getting somewhere now and we’re all starting to get very excited about the launch… even though it is still a long way off!

In the meantime, here is another one of our lovely handmade items.  This week it’s a patchwork quilt which Jacqui handmade as a present for a friend.  The pattern is called ‘Beach Hut’ from Jane Brocket’s book ‘The Gentle Art of Quilt-Making’ and the fabrics are from Jacqui’s HUGE collection, so it’d be almost impossible to say the exact origins!

The book itself is beautiful, but Jane Brocket also has a fantastic blog, so do have a good browse here.

I am yet to receive a quilt from my Mum (hint hint….), though I’m assured there will be one… one day!  But what a lovely thing to have in your home and in your family, I believe hand made quilts are the absolute definition of heirlooms, the most lovely thing to be passed down through generations and even more so if the person who made it is special to you.  So for anyone that hasn’t yet made their own quilt and has a desire to do so, but hasn’t gotten round to it- please do!  Make it for someone special and it’ll be treasured forever.  Of course, I say this, knowing that the chances of me EVER doing this are well, slim to absolutely none (admission- more none than slim), however I love the idea of it.  Amelia has her first quilt in the making, of course it’s been in the making for nearly 3 years now, but when it’s finished, it’ll be an absolute beauty!

We’d love to see pics of your handmade quilts and recommendations of your favourite patterns and books, so please leave a comment below.

UPDATE: Our full website is now up and running and we have  beautiful selection of handmade vintage kantha quilts to choose from, such as the one below.  If you’re a sewer yourself, you will be able to appreciate just how long the hand stitching on these will have taken to do!

Beautiful quilt, but I love your garden too – alchemilla mollis with geranium psilostemnon (or is it Patricia?) – the magenta one. This is my favourite colour combination in the garden. And ferns and white foxgloves….glad I’ve found your blog!

    • Hollie@MiaFleur says:

Hi Freda, the garden is all the creative handywork of my mum, Jacqui, so I have passed your lovely comment on to her! More garden and flower shots to come so keep popping back!
