Garden Design Solutions- Book Review
23 Nov 2015
When you can feel the chill in the air it’s time to start planning your garden. This is the time when the bare bones of the garden present themselves and you can think about what works, and more importantly, what doesn’t work. This is where my latest book review comes in – gardens to drool over and to take inspiration from. ‘Garden Design Solutions’ by Stephen Woodhams, published by Jacqui Small, is definitely not English country cottage gardening, more a master class in contemporary outdoor spaces from around the world.
The Ultimate Copper Styling Guide
17 Nov 2015
Copper is one of the biggest trend of the moment and the easiest way to bring a styling glow to your décor. We’ve had quite a few customers asking us on email and social media which colour palettes to use with copper accents and also how best to style it in their home. So, we thought we’d put all of those useful tips and info into one great big handy guide, which is completely free.
Now, it wouldn’t be the ultimate guide if we didn’t give you a fair old bit of info, so we cover all of the major areas that we have been asked about by customers, plus a few extra for good measure. Which means we’ll look at:
1. Colour: We give you two different colour palettes, one light and fresh and a little bit feminine, and one dark and moody and just a little bit sultry. As well as suggesting some specific paint colours, we’ll also look at…
How to Style 1 Bouquet 3 Ways
13 Nov 2015
The last bunch of dahlias for this year – aah so sad! My youngest boy and 2 of his workers did a day of clearing and cutting down in the garden for me this week as I have been very neglectful and got really behind with the garden so I had to call in the heavies as there was no way I was going to catch up! So what better way to celebrate wonderful dahlias than a quick photoshoot on how to style 1 bouquet 3 ways?
The three vases are all very different in shape the only common denominator being that they are all blue, and divine – of course!
We Won!
5 Nov 2015
This time last week we were utterly overwhelmed, excited, shocked & hugely grateful. You may remember we were nominated in the Amara Interior Blog Awards, well we only went and won our category ‘Best Organisation Blog!’ And no that doesn’t mean we are organised, well Amelia is super organised (abnormally so) but Hollie and me are most definitely not, it means a blog run by a retail company. As a small family run business, working silly silly hours, this award means the world to us and a great morale booster for the troops!
We want to say a huge thank you to Amara for organising such a fantastic event. The work and effort involved on their part is huge. And, of course, a huge thank you to Bang and Olufsen (the sponsors for our category) and all the other sponsors. We also want to say enormous congratulations to all of the other winners. And last, but not least, a massive thank you to our lovely readers who voted for us – couldn’t have done it without you darlings!
We Love: Mandarin Stone Tiles
23 Oct 2015
Now, I’m sure we have all heard of Mandarin Stone, but looking at their website recently I was blown away by the choices and the images. I didn’t know they did outdoor products either. I played safe with tiles (far too safe), particularly for someone who loves colour and pattern, and I do regret it and wished I had been more adventurous, but at the time I had far too many decisions to make regarding interior décor and the bathroom man wanted answers – urgent like! So metro tiles it was – in both bathrooms – and in neutral colours. How much safer can you get than that?! And yes they do look nice, but do they wow me? A resounding no to that one! For someone who says be brave and go for it I am a disappointment and I need to rectify this in the near future. Well maybe in the spring, when thoughts of rejuvenation and inspiration flow through me again, after struggling through the dark and cold months.
‘Terrariums, Gardens Under Glass’- Book Review
17 Oct 2015
Another book review for you – ooh I do love my books – and I don’t think it’s possible to have too many. I only agree to review books that interest me, and that I think I’m going to enjoy, as life is too short for unnecessary stuff! Terrariums, and all things green indoors, are back in fashion and this lovely book, ‘Terrariums: Gardens under Glass’ written by Maria Colletti and published by Cool Springs Press is a step by step guide with lots of inspirational ideas and photos. Maria Colletti is a horticulturist with many years experience teaching all types of terrarium planting so the wealth of plant knowledge is extensive.
